Where wastes get recycled

At Green Impact, we ensure that all collected waste is delivered to the right recycling partner — each one specialized in handling a specific type of material. This guarantees that your waste is not only responsibly processed, but also properly transformed and reintroduced into the circular economy in a renewed form.

Carton

WeCycle Ltd transforms used paper and cardboard into reusable raw materials, primarily in the form of kraft paper for various new applications, especially in packaging and industry.

The company’s process includes:

  • Sorting and fiber preparation to ensure consistent quality

  • Shredding and pulping to separate and clean the fibers

  • Manufacturing recycled kraft paper suitable for different sectors

  • Local recovery to reduce dependence on imports and limit landfill waste

This process contributes directly to Mauritius’s circular economy, by giving a second life to paper and cardboard while reducing the environmental impact associated with their production.

Glass

We are proud to collaborate with Proze Ver Recycling, a joint initiative by Oxenham, Grays, and Scott — all working together to give glass a true second life here in Mauritius.

More than just a project, Proze Ver represents a major environmental commitment. A network of dedicated glass recycling bins for non-returnable glass bottles and jars has been deployed across the island, with the first container installed at Domaine de Labourdonnais.

Once collected, the glass is precisely crushed into various granulate sizes. This recycled “glass sand” is then repurposed for diverse applications such as:

  • Pool water filtration or soil enhancement for gardening

  • Sustainable construction, replacing traditional materials

  • Landscaping and interior decor

Proze Ver Recycling is a prime example of local circular economy in action — giving value to glass, reducing waste, preserving natural resources, and engaging businesses in a responsible, united approach.

Plastic

At Green Impact, we work hand-in-hand with PIM Recycling Ltd, a major player in plastic recycling in Mauritius.

Based in Riche-Terre, PIM Recycling operates an industrial facility capable of recycling up to 3 tons of plastic per day. Collected plastics are shredded, cleaned, and transformed into raw materials that are used to manufacture new local products — reducing both import dependency and landfill waste.

Through this partnership, we ensure that all plastic waste collected from our clients is given a useful second life, in a fully traceable and certified process.

PIM Recycling stands for responsible, efficient, and 100% local recycling.

♻ Conditionnement et exportation du PET – Polypet

For the treatment of PET plastic bottles, Green Impact collaborates with Polypet, the leading PET bottling and processing company in Mauritius.

Currently, there is no PET recycling facility on the island. Therefore, the materials we collect are prepared locally and then exported to specialized recycling plants abroad.

At Polypet, the PET bottles collected by Green Impact undergo the following process:

  • Sorted by color and quality

  • Decontaminated (labels, caps, and impurities removed)

  • Compressed into bales to optimize transport

  • Shipped to international recycling partners, who turn them into new raw materials — such as textile fibers, new bottles, packaging, and more

This partnership ensures that no PET bottle collected in Mauritius ends up in a landfill — but instead receives a certified second life abroad through a verified recycling circuit.

PP and LDPE Plastic Processing & Recycling – Recyclar

At Green Impact, we always prioritize working with local recyclers whenever possible.

However, when certain materials cannot be processed locally, we collaborate with Recyclar — a specialized pre-processing facility that prepares these plastics for large-scale industrial recycling in Madagascar.

We mainly send the following materials:

  • PP (Polypropylene): e.g. plastic bins and buckets, crates, bottle caps, rigid food containers

  • LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene): e.g. plastic film, soft packaging bags, protective covers, stretch wrap

At Recyclar, these plastics are:

  • Sorted by type, color, and quality

  • Cleaned to remove impurities and residues

  • Shredded and compacted to optimize transportation

  • Shipped to Madagascar, where they are fully recycled and transformed into new raw materials (such as pipes, containers, plastic furniture, etc.)

Thanks to this collaboration, we ensure that even when no suitable local channel exists, all PP and LDPE plastics collected by Green Impact are kept out of landfills and given a second life abroad.

Metal

For metal waste management, Green Impact partners with several specialized pre-processing facilities that prepare and export scrap metal to international foundries for recycling.
As there is currently no industrial facility in Mauritius capable of recycling metal locally, this process is carried out abroad.

We send the following materials to our processing partners:

  • All tin cans

  • All aluminum cans

  • Other ferrous (steel, iron) and non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel) collected from our clients

Once received, these metals are:

  • Sorted by type and quality

  • Cleaned and cut into manageable pieces

  • Compacted to reduce volume and optimize transport

  • Shipped to international foundries, where they are fully recycled and reintroduced into new manufacturing processes

This recycling pathway significantly reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill and ensures that all metals collected in Mauritius are given a second life abroad.

E-waste

Recycling Partner – BEM Recycling Ltd

At Green Impact, we proudly collaborate with BEM Recycling, a local specialist in the recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) as well as the safe treatment of used batteries. Thanks to their expertise, we ensure that these sensitive materials are processed in an environmentally responsible and compliant manner.

Electronic Equipment Processing

At BEM Recycling, all electronics are handled through a strict multi-step process:

  • Depollution of devices (removal of oils, gases, batteries, capacitors, etc.)

  • Mechanical dismantling to separate key components

  • Recovery of secondary materials: plastic pellets, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, crushed glass

  • “Zero Landfill” commitment, ensuring a closed-loop and traceable treatment system

Used Battery Handling

For batteries, BEM applies a secure and certified process:

  • Sorting by type (alkaline, lithium, rechargeable, etc.)

  • Secure storage to prevent leaks or fire risks

  • Export to specialized facilities abroad for the recovery of metals and core components

This partnership guarantees that all electronic equipment and batteries collected by Green Impact are processed through a fully traceable, standards-compliant, and eco-conscious system — with maximum material recovery and zero unnecessary landfill.

Batteries

Recycled in partnership with BEM Recycling (Mauritius) and Chimirec (France), to recover valuable materials.
➕ As a bonus: one endemic tree is planted for every 10 kg of batteries collected.

Clothes

Coffee cartridges

We are proud to collaborate with Scott & Co. Ltd, a committed contributor to the circular economy in Mauritius.

What Scott does in terms of recycling:

Nespresso Capsules
– Systematic sorting of components: used coffee grounds are turned into natural compost, and the aluminum is recycled into new products via the Scott Home Delivery program.

Cork Bottle Stoppers
– Collected and repurposed into handcrafted decorative items, supporting local communities in the process.

Plastic Caps & Lids
– Transformed locally into useful objects such as keychains, coasters, or eco-friendly clothespins

Scott & Co. Ltd is a model of responsible, traceable, and diversified recycling — addressing both household and business waste streams.
